About Me
John Swinconeck has been a full-time professional writer and photojournalist since he began working for the York County Coast Star in 2001 as a beat reporter. While there, he established a music review column, and his humor columns were recognized by the Maine Press Association and twice by the New England Press Association. Previously he had interned in the newsroom in Maine Public Radio, now part of Maine Public Broadcasting Network (MPBN), as well as serving as an intern to the communications director of Congressman Tom Allen.
In 2003, John left the Star to work for the Journal Tribune as a beat reporter, and stayed in that position for a year before becoming the Journal's staff photographer in 2004, then photography editor in 2006. His photography has been recognized by the New England Associated Press News Executives Association and twice by the Maine Press Association.
In addition to his photography duties, John took over the Journal's website in 2007, and also became the paper's copy editor in January 2008. He left the Journal in March 2009 during a round of newsroom layoffs, a situation endemic to newspapers nationwide.
Since January 2010, he has worked as an editor for Nielsen IAG, the research arm of the Nielsen Company, that collects metrics about every ad, product placement, and program sponsorship occurring across all broadcast and major cable networks during prime time. John's role at Nielsen IAG is to help develop surveys that appear on RewardsTV.com which records how closely viewers watch advertisements.
He lives with three mischievous birds in Queens, New York City, where he blogs about B movies and continues his interest in photography.
